What is Extreme HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training)?
Extreme HIIT are exercises performed in short bursts separated by short rests. Each exercise set is performed to maximum effort. Exercises may be repeated in a circuit or a group or not at all. Exercises may be simple, one muscle targeted exercises or more complex compound exercises to cover a much larger range of muscles. Extreme HIIT are the exercises that make up a Total Body Blast Class. What is RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion)?
Participants are encouraged to monitor their own progress through using the RPE system of grading effort. RPE – Rate of Perceived Exertion. Every single person is an individual and therefore their RPE is very personal to them. As a guide RPE 1 = sitting on the sofa watching telly or reading a book; RPE 10 is the highest work rate that can be achieved before the individual actually passes out. Clients attending a HIIT class are encouraged to work at the higher end of the RPE scale to make the work rate short but intense and therefore good results can be easily achieved. What to expect in Total Body Blast Class...
Smart Fitt Total Body Blast classes vary from week to week, class by class. Each class is planned around the expected attendees to match their abilities. Class planning is considered around: age of participants, mobility levels, current fitness levels, and whether attendees are male or female. Classes also vary to cover cardio as well as MSE (Muscular Strength and endurance). Classes may be bodyweight only or have additions of one or more pieces of equipment for example the Slam Ball or Dynabands. The addition of equipment or working with a partner or in groups adds a further dimension to a class keeping client interest and furthering participation levels. Classes may use more than one type of training in the same class for example a circuit type warm up, followed by a Tabata Style Main set with a Metabolic Raiser for the last set.
